Business
Group Director, Tality Corporation—Responsible for business aspects of wireless design services across
multiple worldwide engineering design centers. Duties included setting
business area strategic direction, pipeline generation, strategic
selling of system solutions, proposal preparation, pricing, business
term negotiations, and customer coordination with Tality sales force and
technical design centers. Business area responsibilities include
Wireless Networking/Gateways (802.11, Home RF, wireless telemetry,
etc.), Broadband Wireless Access (wireless Internet, 802.16, satellite,
etc.), RF ASICs, and Information Appliances (handhelds, PDAs,
smartwallets, etc.). Received “North American Wireless Business Manager
of the Year” award in 2000 and consistently led all business managers in
bookings. Tality was a subsidiary of Cadence Design Systems.
Executive VP & GM, Wireless Division; Diablo Research
Corp.—P&L responsibility for contract engineering services business in fixed
and mobile wireless markets, including Wireless Local Loop, high speed
modems, point-to-point radio, base stations & repeaters, satellite modems,
wireless Internet, packet radio, paging, wireless LAN/WAN, medical,
telemetry, cellular, PCS, GPS integration, spread spectrum, RF ASICs,
Bluetooth. Responsible for engineering, marketing/sales, project
management and support functions for divisional staff of 40, including
Canadian operation in Vancouver, B.C. Grew division revenues steadily
from $150K/mo to $500K/mo in less than 6 months. Diablo was acquired by
Cadence Design in 2001. As EVP Marketing & Sales, developed all sales/marketing strategies, incentive plans, performance
tracking tools, web site, and marketing communications strategies.
Implemented LAN database for lead tracking and statistical analysis
through the sales cycle to improve forecasting accuracy. Service offerings included turnkey
wireless product development, system and hardware architectures, RF and
custom antenna design, protocol development, modem design, baseband
signal processing, DSP and FPGA implementation, RF ASICs, real-time
microprocessor/firmware design, field trial support, and transition into
manufacturing.
President, Wireless
Networking Division; California Microwave--P&L responsibility for
one of nine divisions in $250+M company. Responsible for engineering,
marketing, sales, production, product management, finance, and
administration for the division. Introduced unlicensed spread spectrum
radio products into indoor point-of-sale and outdoor telco bypass
markets. Built division from startup to $6M in revenues, while bettering
financial plan by 30%. Developed key "early adopter" customers in
emerging wireless markets and earned "vendor of the year" award from a
major computer manufacturer. As President of Telecommunications
Division, Took over ailing division after $8M write-off and
downsized to profitability within one year. Earned “Award for
Excellence” in second year for highest backlog growth. When Company
eventually decided not to pursue growth in transmission products, was
responsible for selling product lines and then dissolving division.
Products included T1 digital transmission products and microwave radio
systems. As VP Corporate Development, reported to company
President and Chief Operating Officer. Assisted president in evaluating
and coordinating technical issues for all company divisions. Recommended
investment opportunities and provided technical direction for
company-funded startups during their infancy. Served on Board of
Directors of Advent Communications Technology, Inc.
Telecommunications
Engineer, GTE International Systems
Responsible for equipment selection, test, and customer sell-off for
international Intelsat earth stations. Project engineer for systems
provided in Chile, Venezuela, Alaska, Israel, Thailand, Dominican
